WILDLIFE in the reserve
Within the reserve, bird watchers have identified more than 217 species of birds. Several animals have also been found such as:
- sloths (Bradipus tridactylus),
- wild pigs (Tayassu tajacu),
- coyotes (Canis latrans),
- anteaters (Myrmecophaga tridactyla),
- tepezcuintles (Cuniculus paca),
- agoutis cherenga or guatusa (Dasyprocta punctata),
- otters or water dogs (Lontra lonicaudis),
- herds of coatis (Nasua narica),
- armadillos (Dasypodidae),
- kinkajous (Potos flavus),
- possums or hairless fox (Didelphis virginiana) and,
- occasionally, a mother cougar (Puma concolor costaricensis) with two cubs,
- capuchin and white-faced monkeys,
- a black jaguar (Panthera onca)
- Variety of reptiles such as snakes, toads, frogs, lizards, iguanas, chameleons, etc.,
- Variety of insects and batrachians.
And where there are birds and frogs, so do poisonous and non-poisonous snakes, as well as tons of insects. Except for the latter, the wildlife is very shy.
